Two CAN Records fell in the same 5000m race at the 2nd Ontario Masters Winter Mini Meet at the Toronto Track & Field Centre on Sunday, January 31st.
W35 Mary Unsworth, from the Muskoka Algonquin Runners, ran 19:00.82 – breaking Diane Palmason’s 20:04 record, that has stood for 38 years!
W40 Michelle Clarke, from the Longboat Roadrunners, ran 19:23.64 – breaking Leanne Shafir’s record of 19:31
There were several close finishes
– as the Mini Meets are lined up by estimated Seed Times
In the 400m, two hundredths of a second separated 1st 2nd and 3rd
Kevin Farr 58.11, Richard Reid 57.95, Jay Brecher 57.94, Bill Wells 57.93
59 years separated John Kittredge and Pau Ileraig-Bajona in age
but only seven hundreds separated their finish in the 1500m Racewalk
It seemed to be Family Day on Sunday
Team Kapral ran a fine 4X400m Relay in 5:07.76
Michal, Lauryn, Dianne, and Annika
Michal, who won the 1000m, still holds the 2:42 Meet Record from 2005
Pau and his mother Claustre Bajona-Xandri were in the 1500m Racewalk
It was Claustre’s very first race of any kind – road or track!
Don Ritchie and his daughter Caroline were both in the High Jump
The athletes gave Norm Creen a round of applause as he’s retiring after many years of being the OMA Starting Line Clerk at all of our meets.
Norm is returning to competition…..not actually retiring!
