OMA Indoor Championships produce a World Record and 13 CAN Records

"The Great Earl" ran a spectacular 1:11.23 in the 400m to shatter the 1:15.58 M80 World Record

Earl got his usual great start in Lane 2

Earl hit the split at 200m in 33 seconds

Earl finished in 1:11.23. He broke the 1:19.6 CAN record (Aleks Ernesaks '92) by over 8 seconds. M60 Duncan Greenshields ran a fine 72.23 just behind Earl.

W55 Karla Del Grande ran 8.54 to break The CAN record in the 60M. Carol Lafayette-Boyd held it at 9.18. Wendy Alexis (L) won the W50 in 8.63. Karen Bourdos (R) won the W35 in 9.28

Earl ran the 200m, three hours after his 400m WR. His 32.07 just missed Mel Larson's 31.86 World Record. He broke Aleks Ernesak's 35.5 CAN record.

Karla ran a blistering 28.15 in the 200m, breaking Diane Palmason's 30.33 CAN record.

A tie in the 800m !  M55 Francois Martel (L) and M45 Chris Deighan both ran 2:11.00

Francois, our guest from Quebec, broke Harold Morioka's 2:11.71 CAN record!

M80 Robert Comber ran a 3:41.95 800m, breaking Les Leyland's 3:58 CAN record.

W60 Rhona Trott ran a 11.33 in the 60m Hurdles, breaking Edith Grey's 12.88 CAN record.

M60 Hugh Miller jumped 3.11 in the Pole Vault - over Stan Egerton's 3.03 CAN record from 1988.

New Member, W35 Michelle Hastick-Cowell broke the CAN record in the Triple Jump with a 12.07m mark - almost two and a half metres past the old mark held by Corry Fox from the Worlds in Buffalo in 1995!  Trouble is - I messed up and missed the shot! To try to make it up, here's a shot of her sister Andrea Hastick winning the W40 Long Jump in 4.21  :-)

W80 Velta Tomsons put the Shot 5.87m - breaking Olga Kotelko's 5.75 CAN record.

M45 Danny Yoisten broke the CAN record in the Weight Throw with a 10.67 throw. The old record was 10.23, held by Jackson Tovell from 1980. I would have had to draw a handle on the shot to pretend this Shot Put photo is the WT - because you don't pay me enough to stand there and take WT shots.  :-)

Rhona set a CAN record with a 11.92 in the Weight Throw. (cheated, and used a photo from MM#2)

M55 Jan Graczyk threw 17.79 in the WT, breaking Rudy Boghina's CAN record by 5 metres!

There were TWENTY Meet Records broken at the Championships - the best marks in Forty years of competitions!

Duane Napier broke Desmond Allen's 7.14 M35 MR (2007) in the 60m with a 7.05 mark.

Rhona (L) just nicks Nanci Sweazey in 1:15.44 to break the W60 MR of 1:17.30 set by Jean Horne in 1997.

Marie Louise Michelsohn USA ran a 6:07.27 to break the W65 MR in the 1500m. The 6:23 record was held by Molly Turner (2001).

Stan Seitz from Ottawa, tied the M60 MR in the High Jump with a 1.45   The great Ian Hume jumped 1.45 at the meet in 1977 and again in 1978. (No - he didn't use the pole to get over at 1.45 - I just missed the shot!)

Our friend from the States, Matti Kilpelainen did use the pole to get over at 3.60, breaking his own MR of 3.40 that he set last year.

Joe Myers USA put the Shot 14.55m, breaking Big John Kasperski's 14.10 M55 MR set in 2000.

Kathy Wetenhall, yet another of our friends form the States breaking records, put the Shot 9.09m, breaking Adri Rowswell's 9.0 W55 MR from 1996. She also broke the Weight Throw record with a 10.20m.
