Karla Breaks Three CAN Records at the Championships

OMA Outdoors 2013 Karla 400m

W60 Karla Del Grande (center) broke three CAN records at the Ontario Masters Outdoor Championships at Varsity Stadium on July 6-7.
She ran the 100m in 13.88. Carol Lafayette-Boyd held the 14.31 Canadian Record from 9 years ago. The World Record is 13.75

Karla ran the 200m in 28.58 – beating Carol’s 29.37 mark from 2002. She just missed the World Record by 4/100ths.
She ran the 400m in 1:08.03 – breaking Diane Palmason’s CAN of 1:08.34 from 2000. The WR is 1:06.69. (W45 Gwen Bailey-Mason (L) and W50 Karen Gold (R))

Karla was also chosen the Ontario Masters Athlete of the Month and the Canadian Masters Athlete of the Month for June.

OMA Outdoors 2013 M80 WR

The M80 Team Ontario Relay Team broke the World Record in the 4X800m with a time of 14:24.03. The old WR was 16:01 held by an Aussie team.

W55 Barb Dabrowski broke her own CAN record with a 36.17m mark in the Javelin (old CAN 34.52)

 

 

 

 

 

OMA Outdoors W40 4X800m

Newmarket Huskies broke the W45 CAN record in the 4X800m Relay in 10:57.41. The old record of 11:24 was held by a team from Alberta. (L-R) Ginette Jones, Kathryn Sullivan, Heather O’Hagan, Jennifer Rout

 

 

 

 

M35 Jonathan Younker broke Winchester Johnson’s 13 year old CAN record in the Triple Jump with a 13.20m mark.

W85 Velta Tomsons tied the CAN record of 6.03m in the Shot Put – matching the mark set by Olga Kotelko BC in 2004.

There were 33 Meet Records broken – the best marks in the event in the 42 years we’ve been holding them.

OMA Championships John Trantor

Of note in the Meet Records, was M60 John Trantor’s 18:12.49 in the 5000m. He broke the old MR of 18:14 from 1992…and it’s noteable because Ed Whitock held the record ! John leading M45 Darryl Rowan and M35 Rob Sidhu.
