M80 Team Ontario is the OMA Athletes of the Month for March

Team Ontario broke the M80 World Record in the 4X400m Relay at the Canadian Masters Indoor Championships on March 17th. They finished in 6:06.23- breaking the World Record of a previous Canadian Team of 6:34.65  (L-R)Earl Fee (Mississauga), Ray Wardle (Nepean), Bill Thompson (Hamilton), and Ed Whitlock (Milton). A true Ontario team!

As it’s the end of the Indoor meets, we added a few
Inspirational Athletes of the Season;

W55 Maria Mallia came back from cancer treatments to compete this Indoor season. Maria was treated for Breast cancer with 6 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, and 25 rounds of radiation.  (chemo – March to July, mastectomy in August, radiation October and November).
“It’s Masters competition that kept me going.  When the doctor said “no, you can’t”… I said “watch me – yes I can””    Maria holds the W55 Canadian Records for the High Jump – both Indoors and Outdoors!

.

M45 Ray Jonasson
came back from a lung transplant to compete and to promote the
Canadian Transplant Association

.

M60 Duncan Greenshields coming off another knee surgery (that would have sidelined most others) continued to race with grit and determination.
